The human breast is a gland that contains milk ducts, lobes, fatty tissue, and a network of lymphatic vessels. Cancer is most often detected when a woman feels a lump, and tumors can arise in virtually any part of the breast. Also, any type of nipple discharge should be reported to your physician. It is important to have your annual physical exam and yearly mammograms ordered by your physician. Remember, early detection can increase your advantage of being cured.

The vast majority of breast lumps is not cancerous and is simply cysts or increased fibroid tissue. A biopsy is required to identify the lump. Having a biopsy will put your mind at ease and let you know exactly if it is cancerous or not. If you have a concern and your physician will not order a biopsy, listen to your inner self and insist on having one or seek another physician’s opinion. It is imperative that you know for sure because early detection is a life saver.

If you are diagnosed with having breast cancer, do seek out support groups and wellness centers to achieve on going support of your disease. Your local physician or hospital may guide you to these programs. If there is not one in your area, you may even want to start your own. Contact the American Cancer Society in your local area for help on this.
